Heavy rain in large parts of Thailand for the next five days

The Thai Meteorological Department expects heavy rainfall in the north, northeast, east and south of Thailand until August 17. There is a weather warning for these areas.
The storm with locally very heavy rain is caused by a southwest monsoon trough over Myanmar. This in combination with a low pressure area above Vietnam ensures turbulent weather.
Waves of 2-4 meters high are expected in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. It is therefore not recommended to go out to sea.

How serious can this be taken. We have often heard forecasts of rain in recent weeks and experienced very little of it.
Now we are in Siem Reap, Cambodia and our plan is to travel next Sunday to the island of Koh Chang to stay there for about a week. Is that a good idea , or should we return home a little earlier ? Good advice is expensive. Regards, Jolanda Hutte
Better to prevent than to cure.
In other words: rather one warning too many than one too few. Take it seriously anyway!
Yes, you can be lucky, but last year I had four days in a row from early morning to late evening rain. I have also had rain every XNUMX hours, but coincidentally only at night. In short, you never know when the rain will fall, but in the rainy season it really does.
Let's just hope that that rainwater ends up in the reservoirs.
You just have to sit on an island and no Elctr no money from the wall, days of rain and storm and you can't leave there we had on samui
Do not panic! Don't change your plans until the last minute.
The TMD (Thai meteorological department) indeed indicates a lot of rain.
I check that website several times a day, especially for the region where I live and it is usually correct. But it also seems to be true for the north and northeast.
But much more detailed is the website of Meteo Consult, yes that Dutch company of Harrie Otten also predicts the weather in Thailand and based on the same data much more accurately. I live in Thailand in an area with a microclimate determined by the "mountains" around and that also often comes out at Meteo Consult.
There will be a lot of rain locally, but with the wind it will be in the north: calculated from Tak to Chiang Rai not too bad, except for local thunderstorms.
A lot of rain is still needed to fill the reservoirs in the north again and so far the amount of rain has been disappointing.
The previous warning for very bad weather in southern Thailand, among others, turned out to be a false alarm on Samui. We had great weather, with a few showers.
Here in the South we can still use a lot of water. The pond, here behind the house, is currently more than 1m below its normal level for this time of year. So let it rain well for a few days, the palm trees will be happy.
I've been in Udon Thani for a week and apart from a small rain shower yesterday, haven't seen much of rain yet, would still be welcome to cool down a bit
