According to Prapatpong Upala of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, the Ministry of Transport's proposed plan to move Mor Chit 2 bus station to its old location at Chatuchak BTS station is a bad idea.

Prapatpong thinks there will be a traffic chaos in the area. The site is now used by the BTS Skytrain as a maintenance depot and covers 710.000 square meters.

He advises the government to take a closer look at costs and passenger capacity. Every day, 150.000 passengers use Mor Chit 2. Buses mainly depart for the North and Northeast of Thailand.

Bus terminal Mor Chit 2 is located on land owned by the Railways. They want to develop it commercially in order to reduce the debt burden of the state-owned company.

    Well,

The land is owned by the railways, which want to develop it commercially in order to reduce the debt burden on the state-owned company.

1/ Should the Skytrain break down and move its depots? how much does that cost???
2/ Should a new building for a bus station be built how much will it cost???
3/ Should the old bus station be demolished and a new commercial ??? be built upon.
    that costs????

What kind of commercial can be built, no people live in the area at all, the Sirikit park at the front, the railways at the back, the Expresse road at the side, in short, no shopping center, after all, Central / UnionMall Lat Phrao is within walking distance.

    But

With 150.000 daily bus passengers, you can of course do something. For example, if each passenger has to pay 10 Bhat, then you have 1.5 million Bhat per day without investment. Simply add it to the bus ticket and pay it to the railway in the evening. Still half a billion a year.
Renovate the space in such a way that a daily market can be built in it. Buy food and take the bus home. Building residential flats over the bus station. The knife cuts both ways, covering rental income and the bus station. Just who wants to live above those smelly buses? noise 24 hours a day??

Maybe others have even better ideas?

    Greetings Gerrit

From the travelers' point of view: a good idea!

The amazing fact is that the Mor Chit bus station has no connection with the MRT nor with the BTS. Relocating to Chatcuchak eliminates this design flaw and saves thousands of commuters and other travelers the taxi fare.

I think that Sai Tai (bus station south) is an example in mind. that has an embedded shopping center and several restaurants.
The new location also connects to the BTS and MRT station. There is also talk that SRT would also sell the land on which the Chatuchak weekend market is located to a project developer
