Security has been strengthened at Sanam Luang, the open area and public square in front of Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace where Thais gather to mourn for the king. This in response to reports that bombings may be imminent in Bangkok at the end of this month. Southern insurgents would have planned this.

Security at the entrances of Sanam Luang has been increased. The gate to the Grand Palace is guarded by soldiers. Another problem is the pickpockets that are active in the area. Visitors should keep a close eye on their valuables.

Last Friday, an estimated 650.000 people came to the site. Coming Friday it will be even busier because the Thai people can then say goodbye to the beloved king who lies in state in the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall.
