Ten catering establishments in Phuket want to stay open until half past four at night, they have requested permission to do so. Now they have to close their doors at XNUMX AM, as stipulated in the ministerial ordinance and the Public Entertainment Place Act.

The catering entrepreneurs argue that Phuket is a tourist province. The current law is harmful to tourism and the bars and discotheques miss out on sales. Many tourists only visit a bar or discotheque after 23.00:XNUMX.

Yesterday, the entrepreneurs submitted a petition to the deputy governor of Phuket. It also states that the catering establishments will behave properly if they are allowed to stay open longer.

Various stakeholders have previously argued for longer opening hours.

According to the deputy governor, local residents are against a late closing time. They fear an increase in noise pollution, crime, prostitution and drug use.

If you haven't been able to enjoy yourself before 2 hours, that won't happen afterwards either. In Thailand it is dark at 18 pm. You may as well leave a little earlier than that.

Indeed. Besides, at my age I can't make it until the morning light. When I was young I kept going until the birds started chirping. Anyway, there are of course not only people over 55 in Thailand. So I do understand.

Don't set yourself as the standard. Everyone can decide for themselves what the best order of the day is. I am well into my seventies and I love to enjoy the entertainment on offer night after night, such as singing and dancing and other forms of entertainment. I don't have to be on the assembly line at eight in the morning, so being up an hour or so later is no problem. And also think about the people who work in the catering industry. If you have to work until one or two o'clock every day, you sometimes want to have some fun after work. Look beyond your own limited world. Everyone thinks it's normal to sit on a terrace after work on a Friday afternoon and celebrate the weekend with a colleague or friends. But what to do if you hardly ever have a weekend? Are those people also allowed to enjoy their scarce free time after work?

True for me it doesn't have to be until 05,00 in the night, but the fact is that in the Netherlands all major discos and catering establishments are empty before 23.00.

Young people don't come before then and since Phuket generally attracts a younger audience like Pattaya, for example, and also more audience that doesn't just come for prostitution, I can understand the catering entrepreneurs.

Because they simply miss out on a lot of euros this way and the youth then sits on the beach with bottles of beer and alcohol or hangs out on the street, or even worse partying in the hotel room.
And of course nobody has any interest or pleasure in that…

In fact, they already have an advantage there, in Hua Hin the bars close at 01:00 by police order. And there are checks who do not close pay a fine. The dancing in Hilton Hotel is allowed until 2 am, but yes that is inside the hotel and so there is never any noise nuisance from the music.
