Subway ticket – MRT Blue Line in Bangkok – maximum 42 baht

The maximum metro ticket fare for the entire MRT Blue Line, including two more expansions to take place next year and in 2020, will remain capped at 42 baht, according to a pledge from Pakapong Sirikantaramas, governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA).

The MRTA boss made this known after rumors arose of a ticket price increase in order to generate more revenue. However, the government rejected the increase because the request was submitted too late.

According to the contracts with the MRTA and Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc (BEM), the concessionaire of the MRT Blue and Purple Lines, fare changes can be envisaged every two years, based on consumer price indices and inflation rates.

Blue line's current 18 stations will be expanded to 38. These are extensions from Hua Lamphong to Bang Khae and Tao Poon to Tha Phra. The extension from Tao Poon to Tha Phra is planned for April 2020. Combined with the current Tao Poon – Hua Lamphong route, the Blue Line is the first electric line in Thailand to go around. An interchange station for the line is located at Tha Phra station in Bangkok Yai district. The station will have four platforms for the Hua Lamphong – Bang Khae route and the route from Tha Phra to Bang Sue on the third and fourth floors.
