Thai farmers are increasingly confronted with health problems because they spray unprotected poison on their crops. The Ministry of Health says that 32 percent of farmers are at risk of health problems due to the (sometimes banned) pesticides they use.

Between 2010 and 2014, the number of farmers who became ill after using chemicals increased from 1.851 to 7.954. The Department of Health announced the numbers on National Farmers Day on Sunday.

The ministry is working to house farm health clinics in clinics and hospitals. This started in 2011. One third of the clinics already have such a clinic. This year, the ministry is aiming for 40 percent.

3 responses to “Thai farmers suffer from health problems due to pesticides”

  1. John Chiang Rai says up

This is why I recently responded saying that I don't even buy vegetables at a local market. Many manufacturers themselves are not exactly aware of what they are actually spraying and how dangerous this is for health. The use of these pesticides is unfortunately not limited to the production of vegetables, but is also carried on to other vegetation via groundwater and wind, so that the animal world and the eventual meat production also suffer. Even where so-called Bio is offered, one is by no means sure, given the poor or missing control. We only eat vegetables from our own garden, or from relatives and neighbours, of whom we are sure that they do not spray.

Not only for growers and consumers of potatoes, vegetables and fruit.
Are there any tobacco smokers among us? Be careful, because in Thailand, the loose tobacco sold by some people is sometimes sprayed with insecticide before packaging, because otherwise customers find the taste too soft. They prefer a slightly stronger taste. And they can get it!

Oh, that's why my wife said "get out of here" the other day when a farmer was spraying over us with a product on his weeds.

Who knows, what we all eat!

Even fruit and vegetables from your own garden cannot be trusted, because of poor groundwater!

Yes, where in the world can you still eat really healthy?
