The Ministry of Health wants to cancel the registration of Thailand Pass for international arrivals. If approved, the measure will first apply to returning Thai citizens, after which it will be extended to foreign travelers.

The withdrawal of the Thailand Pass still has to be approved by the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), but that seems like a hammer piece. This means returning Thai citizens no longer need to pre-register to enter Thailand, said Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. Although no time frame is mentioned, it is expected that the Thailand Pass for Thai travelers will expire on June 1 and a month later that for foreign tourists.

On May 1, Thailand dropped the testing requirement for fully vaccinated visitors entering the kingdom. From April 29 to May 4, some 200.000 international tourists arrived. Dr Sumanee Wacharasint, an assistant spokesperson for the CCSA, said 213.958 Thailand Pass applications were submitted during the same period, with 94,8% approved.

On the extension of the state of emergency, the health minister says it may not be necessary once COVID-19 is labeled an endemic disease. At that point, extra help from central authorities will no longer be necessary.
