Thailand has approved Johnson & Johnson's Covid-19 vaccine. The advantage of this vaccine is that only 1 shot is needed.
Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) is the third manufacturer to receive approval from the Thai Food and Drug Administration, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Anutin Charnvirakul. Vaccines manufactured by AstraZeneca and Sinovac Biotech were previously approved and are being used in the national immunization program.
The Janssen vaccine can be stored at refrigerator temperature. Also, with the vaccine developed in the Netherlands (Leiden), only one shot needs to be given, unlike most other vaccines.
The third approval shows that Thailand is open to all vaccine manufacturers and is eager to provide more choices to the population, Anutin says.

The corona vaccine from Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) consists of one shot. Four weeks after this shot you are maximally protected against the corona virus. Janssen's corona vaccine is a vector vaccine that consists of an existing, harmless cold virus (an adenovirus). A small piece of genetic code as present in the coronavirus has been added to this cold virus. The cold virus has been modified in such a way that it can no longer multiply and does not cause illness. It does, however, ensure that the body's immune system produces antibodies and T cells against the spike protein present on the coronavirus. If the body comes into contact with the corona virus again later, the virus is recognized and rendered harmless.
The question is whether people who have been vaccinated with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine will soon be at risk of not being allowed to enter the country, because those 2 have apparently not (yet?) been approved by the Thai Food & Drugs Authorizations.
