Thailand has been removed from the Priority Watch List of IP offenders (intellectual property) by the US and is now on the Watchlist. The country is notorious for the many fakes of branded goods. Fake branded bags and watches are well-known examples of this.

Thailand was on the list of countries where respect for trademark law is poor for ten years. Trade representative Robert Lighthizer writes in a statement that Thailand is now stepping up efforts to tackle counterfeiting: "The US and Thailand's cooperation in improving IP protection and enforcement has yielded good results on a range of issues."

Prime Minister Prayut is happy with the decision. "The prime minister thanks all parties who have worked hard to achieve this success," said government spokesman Sansern.

The strict control of trademark violations, which started in July, has already led to the problem in some places almost disappearing, according to Minister Sontirat of trade. Recently, attention has mainly been focused on: the MBK department store (Bangkok), the Chatuchak weekend market (Bangkok), the border market Klong Kluea (Sa Kaeo), Patong beach and Karon beach on Phuket.

I also noticed that there is less fake offered. It is still available but less noticeable.

Exactly, I went to Thailand for the first time this year and have been to MBK a number of times. Once I asked about a galaxy S8 and then the saleswoman asked: original?
And another time a bag seller wanted to show me a few watches and then he pushed aside a cupboard and we stepped into a secret room.
So it's all there, but they don't lay it open and bloody.

I wonder when it's Pattaya's turn. I have just expanded my precious collection with a few valuable gems.

There are several large Wholesale markets, the so-called Rongkrueng markets, where 80% of counterfeit items are sold. Only you don't see any tourists or foreigners there.

      hi henry ,
Can you please tell me where I can find it? I spent 3 weeks in Thailand last month, especially in Hua Hin (nothing to be found), the last day I walked to the MBK and looked at nothing I wanted, while they normally had what I wanted in the evening. walked to the phatpong market but also all junk of poor quality
Unfortunately I won't be able to go again until next year, but I would like it if I could have an address in Hua Hin or the surrounding area or BKK (I definitely don't want to buy big and a lot for the trade, please forgive me, but just a some good fake things for me and my family
I hope you can help me ?

      Sincerely

haha action in Patong and Karonbeach. I have just been on Phuket for 2 weeks. I didn't notice any action at all. I could have brought 3 containers full of fakes with me. Clothes, bags and watches it's all just available.

    Counterfeits are sold everywhere.
Wherever in the world you come.
    So not exceptional for Thailand.
    However it is available everywhere.
MBK is no exception. Regular checks are carried out at mbk. Each section is examined to see what is available.
Money is paid and yes, it is reported in advance that a number will come by.
Jbl speakers, Samsung phones etc do not need to be removed.
There are regular checks in Chinatown. Also announced in advance. As a result, most shops close the shutters and staff wait on the street until things can open again.
    Incidentally, a store is emptied.
The amounts paid to the police are between 30.000 and 50.000 baht.
    How does trade enter Thailand?
This goes by truck. Negotiations and payments are also made at the border.
Samsung clones come with shielded logos and the software is modified in Thailand for sale. So no start screen with Samsung.
Everything is delivered separately and packaged in Thailand in the box belonging to the telephones.
The packaging is also made in Thailand.
Products with logos such as Hello Kitty, Doraemon, Spiderman, Rilakuma, etc. are sold very broadly.
This is especially true for phone cases, pencil cases, pen bags, etc.
Now, for example, the yeticup. Original, however, available with logo.
Power banks, charging cables, adapters, etc. available as original and copy.
Almost every day we receive offers from parties. Original and copy.
Correct knowledge of the market and the logos is important.
Jbl xtreme bv original 200 euros. Copy 500 baht.
    Difference? Just look for it…
Watches too. As a tourist you are often not informed and you often go wrong.
Logo/ name eg hoco and holo. Packaging, design etc alike.
And yes, for the ordinary consumer, for example, jbl speaker simply cannot be bought. Copy is of very good quality and is therefore also sold here and there.
China is a major source of counterfeiting. Without counterfeiting, part of the economy simply stands still.

Last week I went to pick up a package at the customs in Samut Songkram. Yes sometimes they pick out your package to check. The tracking says….delivered to Cha Am, however, the package is 99 km further to Bangkok. In the office there was a young lady who came to pick up two boxes, full of new handbags clearly marked with Dior and chanel etc labels. Me and my wife watched closely as the officer was going to curb this. My wife felt a bit sorry for the young Thai woman and asked what problem she had. She had no problem. The goods were allegedly second hand handbags, she said and were taxed in full 100%, had to pay 5000 baht and walked out happy with it.
    So…import easy allowed!
