A speedboat near Krabi carrying Chinese tourists to Krabi caught fire and exploded yesterday. The cause of this was leaking fuel. Sixteen were injured. Five suffered serious burns, including the boat's mate who suffered burns to his face and legs.

The injured have been taken to three hospitals in Krabi and Phuket.

The speedboat was on its way from Koh Sirey in Phuket to the Viking Cave in Krabi. On board were 26 Chinese tourists: 23 adults and 3 children, and five crew members.

The boat was almost at its destination when a fuel leak was detected. The helmsman took a pulse and opened a hatch at the fuel supply. An explosion immediately ensued.

The passengers saved themselves by jumping into the water. They were rescued by nearby boats.

The umpteenth accident with one of the speedboats around Phuket in a short time, if I were the government I would check and enforce more strictly because this is in the news abroad and there are really no more tourists visiting Thailand.
