According to official data, a total of 277 people died and 2.357 were injured in more than 2.300 traffic accidents during this year's Songkran holiday.

Accident and fatality rates are down nearly 30% from 2019 levels. Travel has fallen this year due to concerns over the new wave of Covid-19 infections. No Songkran was celebrated last year, so those figures are missing.

Driving under the influence caused 36,6% of all crashes, followed by speeding (28,3%) and cutting others off (17,8%). Motorcycles were involved in 79,2% of accidents, followed by pickup trucks (6,9%). Most crashes occurred on highways (39,5%), followed by tambon or village roads (36%).

Most victims are between 15-19 years old (15,3%), followed by 30-39 years old (14,4%).

Nearly half a million motorists have been ticketed for not wearing a helmet, not having a driver's license and not fasten their seat belts.

Another feather in the cap of the current government.
They're doing well compared to previous years, aren't they?

The fact that the decrease was most likely due to the Covid crisis (less traffic) is of no importance. If the numbers are good.

All campaigns fail. Only Corona manages a substantial decrease. Hopefully in 2022 Songkran will be able to be celebrated as usual again. Unfortunately, this will also include a significant increase in the statistics on the 7 dangerous days.
Because the Thais continue to drive drunk and all think “what Verstappen and Albon can do, we can do too”.
