The Dutch embassy announces via a message on Facebook that it is imminent Friday 28 July is closed for the birthday of HM King Maha Vajiralongkorn. It is a national holiday for Thailand, which means that government institutions, banks, etc. will also be closed.

As a reminder, here are the other closing days of the embassy in this year:

  • Monday 14 August: replacement holiday due to Queen Sirikit's birthday
  • Friday, October 13: King Bhumibol's death anniversary
  • Monday, October 23: Chulalongkorn Day
  • Thursday 26 October: King Bhumibol's cremation ceremony
  • Monday December 25: Christmas Day
  • Tuesday December 26: Boxing Day

Editor's note: it can be assumed that other embassies, including the Belgian one, will also be closed on the days mentioned above!

Why is Mother's Day + the Queen's birthday not just celebrated on Saturday???
Don't the children and adults have enough free/holidays yet?

This is also celebrated on Saturday. But because the 'working people' do not have a real day off (Saturday is already a day off for companies and government, but not for shops and independent entrepreneurs), this is compensated with a day off on Monday.
There are indeed a lot of days off, but working people like me have a maximum of 10 days of paid leave. In the Netherlands I had 28 days of vacation with a few extra days because of my age.
