The number of tourists arriving in Thailand is expected to increase sharply as the government scrapped the Test & Go access scheme on May 1 and more airlines will soon resume flights to the country.

There are now 44.500 flights a month from foreign airports to Thailand, of which 11.000 are international scheduled flights, according to figures from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT). The CAAT expects this number to rise to 83.500 flights per month by the end of the year, of which 30.000 are international flights.

Government spokesman Traisuree Taisaranakul says everything on Suvarnabhumi is progressing as planned, although it was very busy at times such as at the Thailand Pass checkpoint. Airports of Thailand (AoT) will discuss this with immigration officials in order to limit the crowds in the arrivals hall.

Traisuree emphasizes that tourists who are not fully vaccinated (2x injection, booster is not mandatory) must upload and bring a valid PCR test result, otherwise they must first be quarantined.

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob said that on Monday 16.355 international visitors arrived in Thailand through AoT-run airports (12.660 visitors arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport, 747 at Don Mueang International Airport, 2.318 at Phuket International Airport, 234 at Chiangmai International Airport and 576 at Hat Yai International Airport). Today 16.681 tourists arrive at the five airports, tomorrow 17.770.

Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has reiterated his call for Covid-19 to be labeled an endemic disease in Thailand. He believes this is necessary to revive the economy.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports estimates that about 7 million tourists will arrive in Thailand this year, well short of the target of 8-10 million. It is estimated that Thailand will earn about 30 percent of tourism revenues this year, compared to 2019 before the pandemic.

“There are now 44.500 flights a month from foreign airports to Thailand, of which 11.000 are international scheduled flights”

Does anyone have an idea what those 33.500 other flights are?
It seems to me that those are only charters.

Well I don't get the whole story there are numbers that I don't think are correct.
If 16.355 passengers arrive on 1 day on Monday, that is approximately 500.000 per month.
But it says 44.500 in this story?
Or am I reading it wrong.

Dear Henk, 44.500 flights is different from 44.500 passengers.
By the way, I arrived at Suvarnabhumi (from Doha – Qatar) last Monday with a super full plane. The lady in question who had to check my Thailand pass saw that I had the pass in my hand, put a green sticker on my jacket and said: ready. So that was the check at the airport.

    Thanks James,
    It's clear to me now.
