Just heard that there is a small piece where there is no disturbance at all. Prathai somewhere in the middle of the isaan between Korat and Kohn Kaen. And that while around that village everything is almost white. We are barely talking about a strip of about 2 km long and 1 km wide where there is hardly any nuisance. It's strange how such a thing can happen.

Today again plenty of rain in Korat, Phimai, Bua Yai, Kon Kaen and a piece is spared. Strange world right?

    • It's very local. But what is worrying is that all water reservoirs are now starting to fill up. If it continues to rain, things could get much worse. Another problem is that many Thai people cannot swim. Worrying.

The distance between Khon kaen and Nakhon ratchasima (Korat) is a few hundred kilometers. and korat is low and suffers from water (family lives there)

      Greetings Cees

are going to visit family just above Kon Kaen (Nam Phong) in 14 days and it is quiet there. There will be a bit of dryness because it is a bit higher

    • ThailandGanger says up

Korat is also high up in Thailand. No, the piece mentioned has hardly received anything from the showers. Just got lucky.

    Thanks for the updates.

We leave for Thailand in about a week.

And I actually wanted to take the train to Nong Kai (Laos border).

If that doesn't work I'm out of luck but I keep hoping that the situation doesn't get worse. Not only for our holiday, because we adapt it to the situation there. But
more for the Thai population who are having a hard time.

Just following up on the response above from experience, I know that few Thais can swim, I experienced that in an emergency situation on my first trip to Thailand. And that didn't end well. Must mention that the situation arose when tourists tested a (wave) bath on Koh Pagnan.

This took place during the day and the brave Thai who served as rescuers almost lost their lives because they wanted to save the farangs but could not really swim. Swimming lessons would not be a luxury in Thailand in my opinion, if only to survive myself.

We hope to arrive in Bangkok next Friday and have a hotel near the KhaoSan road. Can someone tell me if that part is flooded? Can see on the map that it will be exciting at the king's palace and that is not far from there.

    • Hard to say, unfortunately I don't have a crystal ball ;-). As you yourself indicate Khao San Road is not on the map and is a lot further from the Chao Phraya river. Follow Bangkokpost and The Nation in the coming days.

  5. Reindeer says up

Dear editors, Khao San Road is about a 5 minute walk from the river, I can't really call that much further. There may be a small height difference, one meter makes a lot of difference.
Have a look at the news.
This morning at 6.00:1,65 local time, the elevation was XNUMX meters above normal.
The dikes and the closures of the klongs have a height of 2,50 metres.
The worst floods to date were 2 meters in 1980 and 2,27 meters in 1983.
The problem could occur on the night of October 26 to 27 due to the full moon which, as we all know, pushes up the sea water and makes it more difficult for the river water to flow out.
I wonder what we will find there.

    • I can't manage to walk from Khao San Road to the river in five minutes, but that aside. Maybe someone remembers how it went with the previous floods? If it was wrong then, it will be wrong now. Not known to me.

  6. Michiel says up

Also plan to spend the night near Khao San.

Somewhere on Soi Ram Buttri. (I liked it last time close to Khao San, but not in the hectic pace of it) If you walk through the UTC restaurant you will be there in no time.

You can also eat excellent and cheap.

Just take a room on the 1st or 2nd floor, make sure you don't rinse your bed.

“Just take a room on the 1st or 2nd floor, make sure you don't rinse your bed.”

To then not leave your room because the water is holding you back? hahaha

      • Harold says up

haha! In addition, Khao San is not my thing anyway, too many smelly backpackers with a bottle of water and braids that have not been washed for a month.

  7. Steve says up

Just go to Thailand. Can be fine. As it says here in the tourist places there are no problems. Nice and warm and lots of sun.

  8. Bjorn says up

    Hello all,

We are also quite concerned about the situation that has arisen. We leave for Bangkok next Sunday and expect to arrive there on Monday 1 November. We can now possibly rebook domestic flights at a reasonably low rate. In this case we can also do chiang mai first and then phuket/krabi and surroundings and go to bangkok at the end of november.

We also want to visit Ayutthaya in the Bangkok area. Judging by the images, it's really bad there right now. Because I really have no experience with Asia or Thailand itself, we would like to receive some more information from the insiders. Is it wiser to change the trip and therefore first do north and south and then return to Bangkok. Or we don't have to worry so much because the biggest problems may already be solved next week. And maybe even a visit to Ayutthaya is still possible. Or are we way too optimistic?

Thanks in advance for the answer! We have a maximum of 48 hours to decide regarding booked tickets and hotels.

    Greetings,
    Bjorn

    • Hello Bjorn, I think Ayutthaya will be difficult in the short term. The rest is fine to do. There are no problems in Chiang Mai. More will become clear tomorrow and Wednesday. If you have already booked then I wouldn't change everything.

No one can predict what it will look like in a few days. That depends on a number of factors. Just wait and see and don't worry too much.

This is a message from last night 27 Oct 6.30 PM
Thailand warns of flash floods, mudslides

BANGKOK, October 27, 2010 (AFP) – Thai authorities on Wednesday issued a warning for possible flash floods and mudslides in 15 southern provinces in the coming days as three more deaths were reported from rising waters.

The floods, the worst to hit parts of Thailand in decades, have left at least 59 people dead since October 10, the Emergency Medical Institute of Thailand said in an updated toll.

The authorities estimate that 3.2 million people across the country have been affected by the floods, with homes submerged and farmland or cattle destroyed.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said he expected the situation to continue for weeks.

“Officials must work hard now because if the floods hit Bangkok it would be miserable as the capital and its suburbs are key economic areas,” he told reporters.

So far, about 1,000 homes along the Chao Phraya river in Bangkok have been flooded, he said.

      Warning
      “Heavy Rain and Strong Wind-Wave”
      no. 5Time Issued: October 27, 2010

During October 27-31, the intense northeast monsoon across southern Thailand and the upper Gulf of Thailand and monsoon trough over the Andaman Sea, the middle South and Gulf's Thailand bring more rain with heavy to very heavy falls in many areas. People in disaster areas near waterways and in lowlands should be aware of flash flood.
As the strong wind-wave occurs in the Gulf, all ships proceed with caution and small boats keep ashore during this period.

The ridge of intense high pressure from China has covered upper Thailand and brings less rain over northern, northeastern, central and eastern Thailand with cooler weather by 2-5 oC drops and windy.

These severe weather conditions will be issued and notified periodically.

The advisory is in effect for Thailand from October 27, 2010

      Issued at 4.00 pm

Bangkok is preparing for the large amount of water….. but in the middle of the country they have been fighting against it for more than a week.

I went to the beaches south of Hua Hin this afternoon.
Beyond Thao Takiab to beyond Pranburi sea and beaches that you always dream of as a tourist.
The high sea with big waves was striking, but the beaches there are very wide in many places so that there was enough space, especially at Khao Tao.

Many ski surfers in the sea at Pranburi where the beach is not that wide but the nice thing there is that you have grass terraces by the sea.
In the meantime, 2 ski surf schools have also opened there.
There are not so many tourists because it is not yet well known, but everything is there for a pleasant stay.
I have not yet encountered peddlers and beggars, there is 1 beautiful national park.

Heard there was also a typhoon on the way. Can't find anything about it. Hope a monkey sandwich is a story. I'm a little worried about the messages. One of my children arrived in Phuket today and one of my other children is leaving for Phuket tomorrow. I hope it will all go well and will be kept informed here. Maybe I am too overprotective mother.
