The Thai government will look again at the realization of Kra Canal, said government spokesman Sansern yesterday, it does not have a high priority because other development projects have priority.

In the south, the Kra channel should form a connection between the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, which will considerably shorten the sailing route. This canal of approximately 100 kilometers is planned in the narrow neck of Thailand, just south of Chumphon. The project has been discussed before, but given the high costs it never became concrete (you can read more about this project here: www.thailandblog.nl/transport-traffic/het-kra-isthmus-channel/

Sansern warns the public about media reports that the project is a race run. He responds to the report that a group of people is now preparing for a rally in support of the construction and is calling on the population to join its campaign.

According to insiders, China has repeatedly urged the Thai government to realize the Kra canal.

I don't see the canal being built for another 100 years. Previously a train and pipeline from the Gulf of Thailand to the Amanda Sea, but on completely Thai territory and not like the canal, a bit through Burmese waters. A deep-sea port is already being constructed in Damai with a road/rail connection to Mapahut in Thailand, but it will take some time before that happens. Ben

if the Chinese ask, let them finance part of it themselves. they also benefit from it!
