The dark sky between Thailand and Cambodia seems to have cleared. In 2003 there was even a threat of war between the two countries over the Hindu temple Preah Vihear and the border area. There were even deaths during shelling and other military clashes. It is now cake and egg again, as witnessed in the photo above, although Prayut seems to feel a bit uncomfortable with the hug from colleague Hun Sen.

The two met in Phom Penh on Thursday to discuss bilateral trade. In addition, agreements were made to solve the traffic congestion at the Aranyaprathet-Poipet border post. Four new border posts will be opened for this: the first is the border post between Ban Nong Ian (Sa Kaeo) and Stung Bot (Banteay Meanchey). The other two are still unknown.

Furthermore, both countries want to restore the rail connection Aranyaprathet – Phnom Penh before the year 2020. This connection has been badly damaged in internal conflicts in Cambodia.

In 2020, bilateral trade between the countries should amount to USD 15 billion, in 2015 it was USD 6 billion. Both heads of government also signed an agreement to avoid double taxation.
