Pattaya police could have arrested Russian mafia boss Alexander Matusov, who was arrested on Monday, in December 2012 when he reported the robbery by a transgender prostitute he picked up on Jomtien beach.

According to Matusov, who filed a report under his own name, he was 1,5 million baht lighter after being drugged. He was found naked and unconscious in his home.

Police failed to consult Interpol's most-wanted list, which Matusov had been on since 2009. According to the police, this is not standard procedure for victims of crime and its database system does not do this automatically. An inspector of the immigration police in Chon Buri blames this on the lack of a link between Interpol's database and that of the local police.

Nevertheless, it remains curious that the police let the chance of arrest pass, because Matusov's full name was used by the local press during the month-long investigation into the robbery. Matusov was only handcuffed on Monday when he drove bare-chested and drunk against traffic in Sattahip on his motorcycle.

Matusov came under scrutiny after the report by a Russian, who accused him of having pushed back a 500.000 baht bail. He had deposited that money for the purchase of a condominium owned by the mafia boss. Only then did the police find out what Matusov was up to. He was then followed for a week. After the Russian embassy and Interpol confirmed his identity, the police pulled out the handcuffs.

Matusov came to Thailand in 2009 on a forged Armenian passport. He has lived there ever since retirement visas. In Russia he led a gang that is held responsible for sixty murders. Interpol will put him through its paces tomorrow.

And tidy is neat!! People like this deserve nothing better than a small cubicle with those iron bars in front of their window.

Also special that this (suspected) criminal goes to the police himself if he is caught once. Seems quite childish.

I'm comfortable with it, now I don't have a caviar supplier anymore.

    All joking aside.
I always wonder how the ladies from Russia can do a profession that is forbidden in Thailand.
In addition, I am also increasingly questioned about other practices that are common in Pattaya.
Hopefully the junta will do something about it.
It's not just there, in NL they can also do something from all corners of the world, Pieter comes with his servant.

An answer to your question Pim is very simple .
How can the ladies from Russia , and not only from Russia , practice their sinful profession in Thailand ??
Just ask the local police that question.
They won't be happy with your question, that's for sure as some of them know the answer all too well.

      Jan Beute.

He who believes that the police knew nothing about it at all and found out completely by chance that a world wide wanted crook lives in Thailand quite by accident and by mistake, just happens to be completely wrong. I can't imagine that this gentleman crossed the border from Russia on foot, without anyone noticing.
Should you try in Thailand, not to pay a ticket for wrong parking tomorrow. That will be laughable and that without you being on Interpol's list.

A Mafia boss who lets himself be robbed? The Sicilian Mafia is in the creases of laughter. What a pitiful figure.
