A joint squad of 2005 police and soldiers raided the home and offices of Pian Kisin, former mayor of Patong, and his son yesterday. Both are suspected of illegal shipments, extortion, crowding out competitors and (since XNUMX) tax evasion. Hotels and holiday parks acted as cover.

The suspects extorted hotels and tour operators, used private cars for a taxi service, prevented taxi drivers who were not members of their taxi cooperative from doing their job and eliminated other businessmen.

The police worked on the case for three months to collect the evidence. This has resulted in 27 arrest warrants and 12 search warrants for Pian, his son Preechawut and several family members.

"The suspects are influential figures in local politics and they are the largest mafia in Phuket," said Panya Mamen, Commissioner of Provincial Police Region 8. "They also support politicians financially."

In addition to the police and army, personnel from the navy, the Ani-Money Laundering Office (Amlo) and the tax authorities also participated in the raids.

A total of eight places were raided. Pian and son were not found, but his wife was, who said she did not know where her husband was. The man is said to be in Bangkok on a business trip. A rifle and documents were found in the house (photo).

The police still have no idea what the value of the assets that can be confiscated is. After she has completed her investigation and handed over the file to Amlo, this office will immediately seize Pian's assets.

  1. Martin Staalhoe says up

It is of course very good that they deal with that kind of people and Pattaya is also next
but the nasty consequence of this is that on Koh Lanta (where I have a restaurant on the beach) and throughout Thailand, for example, no beach chairs and umbrellas may be placed
And probably no tables and chairs and barbecue on the beach either
Also a new law is that no advertising may be made of alcohol, no brands
the beer glasses etc. No Happy Hour signs, no recommendation of a particular type of cocktail
no sales after 24.00:6 If this does happen, the owner can be imprisoned for XNUMX months
I live in Sweden for 3 months in summer but I think Thailand like this more and more
    to resemble Europe
The markets with fruit and vegetables should be made more beautiful, but these people have absolutely no money for that, there were fierce demonstrations in Krabi about this

With too much prohibition, I think that tourists will avoid Thailand
