Passenger of taxi boat Saen Saep canal drowned
A nasty accident in Bangkok while mooring a taxi boat on the Saen Saep canal. A passenger drowned when the man hurriedly jumped off the boat before it came to a stop.
The accident happened at the Nanachat stop. The victim's body was pulled from the water two hours later by a diver.
Bizarrely, the victim on the same channel had already been injured once before in March of this year. Then a boat engine of a taxi boat exploded.
After the accident, State Secretary Ormsin announced that he wanted an investigation into the possibilities of placing fences on the scaffolding. This would allow passengers to board and disembark more carefully. Transport Minister Arkhom says it is the skipper's responsibility to ensure that passengers do not disembark the boat before it comes to a stop.
The ticket inspector has informed the police that it happens more often that passengers jump off the boat before it is properly docked. He repeatedly asks the passengers not to jump on the jetty, but some don't listen.
I always went with it to everything. I really don't understand how you can drown like that, I know a lot of people can't swim in Thailand, but haven't they stopped to help? the water is of course very dark in the saen saep. maybe they waited too long with their rescue attempt? would like to see a video of it.
khaosodenglish has a video. a case of nobody coming to the rescue. wonderful.
What nonsense to blame the skipper.
That passenger doesn't want to wait.
I'm not saying that the skipper is guilty. But it is a fact that we feel rushed by the shouting rew rew rew. the passenger miscalculated when transferring and fell into the water as a result and his head hit the side, unfortunately resulting in death.
The boat often takes an unavoidable turn due to the current, which causes it to deviate. If you are a little too fast at that moment, well, an accident is soon inevitable.
it would be better to give a signal when travelers are allowed to board and disembark, that way one avoids a swarm of rushed passengers.
I take the taxi boat almost every day. When the boat docks, they call the passengers quickly quickly in a rushed way. It gives the impression that people should not delay too much because the boat must be able to leave on time. The boat drivers also have a sometimes indifferent character. You just have to see that you get in and out on time. Have already seen many times that someone grabs the rope to get in, but the boat is already a bit too far from the quay to get in safely steps that require the passenger to let go of the rope because the boatswain does not look after them. their principle when it's time it's time and leave not a second later. There are plenty of boats every five minutes. I often talk to the supervisors on the wharf who oversee safety. unfortunately they are not always present because that puts a brake on the indifference of the boat drivers.
I sat on the taxi boat while the divers and swimmers were searching the water for the victim, even then the boat traffic was not stopped and the boats could pass quietly.
I found it very incomprehensible and I think it makes finding the victim much more difficult.
Furthermore, many Thais on the shore and on the boat who were ready with their mobile phones to be able to film everything immediately when the victim was retrieved, just disgusting and shows no respect for the victim at all.
