The 69-year-old former prime minister and businessman Thaksin Shinawatra has plans to take over the English football club Crystal Palace. Thaksin previously owned Manchester City for a short time, after which Sheikh Mansour took over and City grew into an English top club. Taksin would have to pay more than 170 million euros to take over Crystal Palace.

Thaksin Shinawatra, born in Chiang Mai, was Prime Minister of Thailand between January 2001 and April 2006 and is the leader of the Thai Rak Thai political party. As the head of the Shin Corporation, which manages, among other things, Thailand's largest mobile phone company Advanced Info Service, he is Thailand's richest man. The military ended Thaksin's (acting) premiership on 19 September 2006 in a coup d'état.

Crystal Palace Football Club is an English football club founded in 1905, with headquarters at The Crystal Palace in Sydenham. The club ended the season on Sunday with a spectacular 5-3 victory over Bournemouth. Manager Roy Hodgson's team finished in twelfth place. The Eagles played in England's second tier for years, but they have now been active in the Premier League for six seasons in a row.

That he would be Thailand's richest man is of course nonsense.
He ranks 1,9th in Forbes' list with a "paltry" US$19 billion.
And then they neglected to mention the US$30-50 billion fortune of the man in lederhosen country.

And so you see that Thaksin has always been a man with an entrepreneurial spirit, and you can't say that about the current club.
And that translates into the economic situation the country is in today.
