An image from a video posted online shows passenger queues at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Friday (Video: Fah Walaiphan Facebook Account)

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) is shocked by the long queues at Suvarnabhumi airport and has instructed the management to rectify the problem as soon as possible.

A passenger on a Thai Airways International (THAI) flight departing from Suvarnabhumi posted a video online on Friday showing a long check-in queue. Some passengers would queue for more than three hours, while others missed their flight.

The CAAT admitted that there were long queues, but denies that passengers missed their flights. Authorities said the situation was resolved around 10.00 a.m. on Friday.

THAI managers said the long queues were due to insufficient staff, but assured that more staff will be deployed as the country reopens and more travelers are expected.

Passengers are asked to be at the airport two to three hours before departure so that they can check in on time for their flight.

Just checked in at KLM. Nowhere queues everywhere the only and first, it has never gone that fast. Even at security and immigration there was no one for me. Re-entry also the only one. But plane is completely full .. was present 3.5 hours in advance.

According to reports in the Bangkok Post, the problems occurred at Thai Airways, due to insufficient staff.

Amazing message. Flew back to NL from BKK last Saturday and never went through all the checks so quickly. Seemed like we had a private airport.

Good reader needs half a word, the delay was at Thai airways…..
Not at the airport or with any other airline

Been to 4 airports last week. Nice, bad , Amsterdam chaos, Frankfurt normal, Bangkok fantastic, . Thailand pass control, curse and a sigh, immigration, it was my turn right away, checking in for Ubon, hassle-free, minutes of work. Can't say anything else, Chapeau for the Thai, excellent for each other.

Beforehand: Problem was at THAI, due to staff shortage and due to a busy weekend. That is special, because it is literally and figuratively known weeks in advance who will fly when. Then you can call in extra staff.

That “hustle and bustle” was also in London, Dusseldorf and Amsterdam. Well, if you first dismiss your temporary workers and then ask them back for € 10,69 per hour, while other sectors simply pay euros more per hour, then no one will show up. Then you can say 'staff shortage', but it's just bad management. Arrogant even.

Fortunately, people in Thailand are always fairly quick to solve these kinds of problems. Perhaps Schiphol could ask the AoT how they do that… I am now reading again about empty aircraft flying back to Amsterdam (KLM Cityhopper), because there is runway maintenance (Schiphol has 5 runways, so that should never be a problem are!) and “the weather”. For those who were not in the Netherlands yesterday, we won't soon experience better weather than yesterday, so what an incredible k * t excuse from Schiphol. Well, you have to come up with something. Honestly admit what everyone has known and seen for a long time, namely that the management has been sleeping over the years and only looked at how they could pay even less for handling, security and cleaning, that is of course too simple.
