The Department of Airports (DoA) plans to invest 5,8 billion baht next year in regional airports across the country, acting director-general Thawi Kesi-samang announced during his first day on the job.

These include an investment of 1,3 billion baht in new taxiways at Krabi airport, 800 million baht and 775 million baht to build new terminals at Narathiwat and Buriram airports respectively, projects to expand airports ( 500 million baht) and an international terminal (200 million baht) at Surat Thani airport.

According to him, there is also an urgent need to intensify the construction of a new airport in Yala. This should be ready by the middle of next year.

From 2019 to 2022, up to 27 billion baht will be allocated for the upgrade of 17 airports. In addition, there is a desire to extend the runway length at 38 airports from 2.100 to 2.400 meters in order to allow large aircraft to land and take off.
