The Ministry of Finance is considering a master plan that should prevent a repeat of this year's floods.

The costs are estimated at 420 billion baht. The plan includes improving irrigation and flood prevention systems. The country is divided into zones: green zones are safe, red zones are used as permanent water basins. The inhabitants of those areas will have to move to areas that are ideally 1 or 2 meters above sea level.

The implementation of the plan must be in the hands of a single body. At present, numerous departments and provincial authorities are involved in water management.

The damage from the floods is estimated by the ministry at more than 100 billion baht. 342 people have lost their lives and more than 9 million people have been affected by the water. It is estimated that 2 million tons of rice have been lost, the industrial sector suffers a loss of 80 billion baht. The damage to personal property is unknown.

  1. nok says up

There was once an inferno in a mall in Bkk, a big fire and there were no escape routes.

Now take a look at the fire escape routes in the malls. There are nail studios in front of the door or there are cleaning trucks. That emergency door is rarely easily accessible as it should be.

In 2 years the Thai will have forgotten this again, I'm afraid.
