According to the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, coastal erosion is under control. A total of 800 km was eroded, of which 559 have been restored. Over the past 50 years, 25 percent of its 3.151 km of coastline has experienced erosional degradation.

The most effective ways to protect the coast are bamboo poles and mangrove forests. Other methods such as the construction of concrete embankments do more harm than good.

In 23 coastal provinces, residents are allowed to participate and submit ideas to protect the coast in the long term.
