The former sister-in-law of the Thai crown prince has been sentenced to 2,5 years in prison for lèse majesté in Bangkok.

Sudathip Muangnuan has sold foodstuffs to the palace at inflated prices, according to the Thai newspaper Khaosod. Thanks to her connections with the court, she could easily outdo competitors. The fraud is seen by the court as a gross insult to the king and his family.

Muangnuan is the sister of Prince Vajiralongkorn's ex-wife. In December, the prince divorced his wife Srirasmi because several of her relatives were embroiled in a corruption scandal. Today's verdict is also part of that case.
