Thailand's crown princess renounces royal titles
The wife of Thailand's Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn has renounced her royal titles. Princess Srirasmi had submitted a request for this to King Bhumibol and he has granted it.
Srirasmi and her family are embroiled in a corruption scandal. Seven family members have already been arrested, as have several of the princess's associates. The family would have been guilty of extortion. Srirasmi's uncle is also suspected of organizing illegal gambling.
Parting
The Thai crown prince had already urged the government in Bangkok that his wife and her family would surrender titles. He is expected to get divorced soon.
Srirasmi is the third wife of 62-year-old Vajiralongkorn. The couple has been together since 2001. They recently appeared together on official occasions.
