In Thailand you come across many transgender people, Ladyboys (men with feminine characteristics) and Tom's (women with masculine characteristics). They are therefore part of the colorful society. Although Thais are tolerant of the individual, a law has been passed that prohibits discrimination against transgender people.

The Gender Equality Act came into force on September 9 and punishes discrimination based on gender and sexual orientation with up to six months in prison and a 20.000 baht fine.

The law defines “unfair discrimination between the sexes” that violates the rights of the individual because a person chooses to be male or female, even if it does not correspond to the sex of birth. The exemptions for education, religion and the public interest were removed from an earlier version of the law.

  1. ron says up

Hopefully they will also move on to adjust the gender swap on the id as well. That is not happening now and seems to me discrimination.
