Thailand is not bad when it comes to broadband internet speed. The country even ranks eighth in Asia and 52nd worldwide, according to a survey by the American company Ookla (www.netindex.com).

Based on the results of tests conducted by Speedtest.net, Ookla says that tests show that an average speed of 19,9 megabits per second is achieved in major cities in Thailand. That is faster than internet in Vietnam (17,6 Mbps) and Cambodia (9 Mbps). Nevertheless, the difference with countries such as Singapore (121,7 mbps) and Hong Kong (102,6 mbps) is very large. The average broadband speed of some other countries in Asia: Laos 7,1 mbps, Indonesia 6,7 mbps and the Philippines 3,7 mbps. For comparison, the average internet broadband speed in the Netherlands is 50.8 mbps.

Ookla's results show that average internet speeds in Thailand have increased significantly since January 2014. In 2014, the average speed was still 12,4 mbps.

For the fastest internet in Thailand you have to be in Mukdahan (32,19 Mbps), Sattahip (31,3 Mbps) and Hua Hin (25,4 Mbps). Pattaya ranks fifth with 22,6 Mbps, while Bangkok actually fares poorly, ranking 17th with an average speed of 18,1 Mbps.

If you are considering switching to another internet provider, then Maxnet with a throughput of 19,8 mbps is the best option in terms of speed. Cat Telecom is also quite fast and so are 3BB and True with an average speed of 18,7 Mbps. TOT scores the worst with 11 mbps.

I'm here in Loei at 30.59 Mbps. That is with True internet and I am quite satisfied with that. Costs 749 baht per month.

It is not entirely clear to me how Thailand averages 19.9 mbps in the major cities, while the best internet provider is stuck at 19.8 mbps.

I read that the average speed is 19,9 Mb/s. So based on all MEASURED locations. For the (average?) fastest internet in Thailand you have to be in Mukdahan (32,19 Mbps), Sattahip (31,3 Mbps) and Hua Hin (25,4 Mbps). Pattaya ranks fifth with 22,6 Mbps, while Bangkok actually fares poorly, ranking 17th with an average speed of 18,1 Mbps.

I don't read whether the average speed per location is also based on all providers, so the average performance of all providers.

I also do not read at which location the best-delivering provider was measured. In other words, it all means nothing. In addition, the speed of the internet depends a lot on the environment and distance from the connection to the nearest distribution point and the load (time when many connections are used intensively). So it's all very vague.

I recently took out a fiber connection for my internet, super fast but... up to the limit. Downloading from Spotnet, for example, is done at a much lower speed; The response to my complaint to the provider was that the Thai government is significantly reducing the speed of 'oversea connections'. The above Mbps is correct, but only if you surf/download in Thailand/Asia.

Yasothon has true 30 mps quite fast though for 799 bhat per month

We have the so-called Wi-net of TOT here. This is when you live too far from the main stream to be connected to the cable network. You will then have an antenna placed in the garden, which will receive your internet from a central mast.
Apart from some glitches in the last few days, I'm happy with my 10 Mbps download speed. IPTV is also running well. That was different about a year and a half ago.
So in some cases, a provider like TOT can come in handy, because even though they score lowest in the test, they are the only ones that can be a godsend in remote areas.
Whether it will ever reach the above high speeds… who knows. Would like to, but not necessary.

Sjaak, the future is the 5G network. This will be considerably faster than the current 4G and will eventually allow unlimited use for internet without separate costs for data traffic. Will even be able to compete with ADSL. But whether we will experience that, with our age, is of course the question. These are Tele2's predictions.

    Just speak the truth!
ToT and True Move are pure evil
You order True and only deliver 50% speed while you pay for 100% and get no service at all.
3BB is one of the better ones at the moment, although I think they are also turning the speed knobs there from time to time.
There must be a control system to check and reprimand these corrupt companies.
