Koh Samui threatened by waste

On Koh Samui people are sounding the alarm about the large amount of waste. The garbage slowly piled up because the local waste processing company has not been able to handle the large amount for 8 years. There are already some 250.000 tons of waste waiting for disposal or processing.

In addition, more waste is added every day from households and the tourist industry. The latter is now being labeled “Black Pete”, because a lot of waste has been added due to the rapid growth of tourism. It is forgotten that this branch of industry generates a lot of employment and income.

Households and tourism produce nearly 150 tons of waste every day. The city council has tried to solve the problem by hiring a company to catch up with the garbage disposal backlog. Additional financial support has also been requested from the government. Furthermore, a campaign is being conducted asking for the waste to be delivered separately. Both by households and companies, so that one part can be recycled and the other part destroyed.

I'm surprised they haven't just set it on fire yet.

Set fire to it and a large part is solved.
In the hinterland of Thailand they have been doing this for years and there is no way around it.

When we went to Thailand for the first time in *97 and therefore also to Koh Samui, we already thought it was a terribly dirty mess there. Similar to the seaside resorts in Egypt. If you walked on the beach and therefore ran into the back of the hotels, you only saw piled up dirt. Furthermore, we did not like much about the island, so we said, we will never come here again.
About 4 years ago, however, we received an invitation from a befriended hotel manager, so we went again. After that, NEVER AGAIN

This is not just a problem for Koh Samui alone, also on Koh Chang and you name it, they all have the same problem. And the Thai government mai pen rai does very little about it.

Years ago money came from the government to buy a new waste processing machine.
But then again, this is Thailand, so the money is gone and the garbage disposal machine never came.
So the whole thing is just thrown into a heap and lies there to rot. I live nearby and once a month the windows and doors really have to be closed because of the stench.

So it is by no means the tourists' fault, but that song is pretty much standard for a Thai problem.

Have you ever looked over a bridge railing in Bali to see the rubbish that is being dumped there en masse. Have you ever been to the beach of Kuta (junk from Java of course). Compared to that, Koh Samui is a polished paradise.

Koh Samui a polished paradise, who says this is the same Joop who lives close by and the windows and
doors have to close because of the stench.
I also live there and have written about it several times that they just put the dirt in the primeval forests
dumping and not only where I live but various places on the island.
Last year was extensively on the news via Thai3 and they said they had money from the government
wanted to fix the broken install and reboot.
In my opinion Samui is one of the richest municipalities, where has the money gone???
Oh yes, since 1 year all received hail new garbage trucks that make the waste a bit more compact and faster
    transport to the forests.
