The New Year, which will be celebrated in various places in Bangkok and four other provinces, should bring in a lot of money, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

The TAT hopes that 1 million foreign and Thai visitors will come. Between December 29 and January 1, the TAT expects them to spend 17,3 billion baht, 8 percent more than last year. Of this amount, 7,8 billion baht comes from 520.000 foreigners, an increase of 15 and 9 percent respectively. Domestic tourists make 2,7 million trips and that should yield 9,5 billion baht, both 3 percent more than last year.

The newly opened Iconsiam, a huge shopping and entertainment complex on the banks of the Chao Phraya, will be packed with fireworks and other shows. There is room for 4.000 spectators.

    If you believe in fairytales
Today the Euro = 37.12 Baht

I don't think that has much effect on tourist spending. They are simply on leave and people are not watching as closely.
Except for those who bite a Eurocent in half, they will also do the same with the Baht.

Moreover, it is no longer decided whether people will go to Thailand for New Year. That decision was made long before. People will no longer say I stay at home because the Baht is 37 to the Euro.
