The Meteorologocal Department predicts that the cold front from China will continue to affect temperatures in the north and northeast of the country through the end of January and possibly into February.

In the coming days, the temperature in the North and Northeast will drop by 1 to 3 degrees to rise again at the end of the week. Minimum temperatures in Bangkok, Central Plains and the East range from 13 to 18 degrees.

Spokesman Somsak Khaosuwan says that the temperature can differ per area: "In mountainous areas it can drop to 1 degree, so tourists and residents in these areas should ensure that they have warm clothing with them."

Somsak also warns residents in these regions to be careful with open fires because the dry air caused by the cold front can increase the risk of fires.
