The parliamentary committee that must assess the 2021 budget has approved the purchase of two more Chinese submarines, which should jointly cost 22,5 billion baht. One submarine is already under construction.

Critics believe it is a waste of money because the waters they have to patrol are too shallow. In addition, Thailand is not threatened by any other country. Another criticism is that the money could be better spent on the recovery of the economy that has been hit hard by Covid-19.

It is no secret that Prayut usually approves of the purchase of expensive military toys in order not to lose the support of the military leadership for his rule.

Vice-chairman Yutthapong of Pheu Thai says that he and others who oppose the purchase will continue to oppose this waste of money: “The prime minister apparently prefers to buy submarines rather than the money going to the economy and the population that has been hit hard. ”

Pheu Thai MP Krumanit, who also voted against, is a bit milder: “I am not against the plan, but we want it to be postponed. Over the past five years, the military has spent more money than almost any other government department.”

They are better off spending the money on unemployment and small entrepreneurs, but I think there will be a bit more to it.
It may well be that things really start to rumble in Thailand, then they can let the military staff and members of the government run off with it (flee) 55555.
Maybe move to their great friend China??

Of course there is more behind it.
Get trade shortfalls resolved or do something that shows you are doing something about it.

Thailand can become a plaything between China and the US as it is an important player for both and the Thai know this.
Turkey is playing the game and so is Thailand.
Anyone who thinks that a tourist makes any impression is overestimating himself. It sounds silly but be prepared for it.

In addition to this expenditure, it was also decided to increase the expenditure for a person in Germany.
From 7.6 billion bath this year to 8.9 billion bath next year.

Isn't it logical if you have to maintain 20 girlfriends? Understandable and very thoughtful.

Indeed. The total budget for the Supreme Institute is 600 million dollars, which is subsistence, propaganda, protection and so on, 18 billion baht. That's no secret, it's just in the government budget.

Idiot expenses. The entire South China Sea will soon belong to China and where do you want to go sailing with those things? Fight pirates? Or are Danube and Isar deep enough to park them there; near Munich I mean….

There is still so much to do about poverty, education, irrigation and water management in Thailand. But yes, Jan Rap and his mate are at the back of this government.

The Gulf of Thailand is too shallow for a submarine, you can be seen by the enemy, and they come by air or land, money is better spent on employment, and helping the small entrepreneurs

    • TheoB says up

Submarines are mainly deployed in international and territorial waters of other countries to carry out covert operations.
As Erik noted, they will not use it to navigate the waters claimed by the Chinese in the South China Sea without permission from the Chinese. The Chinese know exactly what the weak spots are in the submarines they build.

    WORK.
If that's true, that's really outrageous.. 200 million euros for a member of the richest royal family in the world. Those messages make you sad... Too bad for that beautiful country and all those hard working nice people!!

It is very important that you do not let the enormous effects of the Covid-19 measures weigh more heavily than the enormous threats that can reach Thailand almost daily via the sea route.
With this investment of 22.5 billion baht, you keep a serious threat from the sea under control, and a high-quality Chinese friendship, and for that, the Thai compatriots can feel free to get a few more people to the balls.

there are still a lot of people who have lost everything, have nothing to eat and depend on donations, let them spend their money on that, one of the reasons why does thailand need it? but he comes from china, the prime minister and the senior military will not have gotten any worse, another few millions in the private account!!! And that idiot in Germany is really a shame for this beautiful country.

And how much of that 22,5 billion is a bribe?

which I do not hear or read whether there is a plan behind it to also be able to make a fist at sea.
I can well imagine that ASEAN will sooner or later also want a defense, read military treaty a la NATO, to counterbalance China's expansionist drive. Whether that would succeed is the question, look at Cambodia, which is already being completely economically wrapped up by China.
As long as it is not clear what the plan behind this is, there is only one thing left for us, namely to consider it a waste. Or are they already in cahoots with the Chinese should China or its interests in the CHinese Sea be attacked?

Let them build in China. Lots of Hi tec with viruses and Gps locator built in. This can never be found among those millions of chips. Just activate via satellite .. So can never offer protection. And then the Thais also have to sail with it… They are the best sailors in the world. 555. The costs of arming and training and maintenance will also make this project 100% more expensive.

A military treaty, defense against common enemies: I can't imagine anything like that in an ASEAN context. Within ASEAN there is little awareness of common interests and pure self-interest, when it really comes down to it, plays a solitary leading role.

So much money for a useless boat.
And in the isaan the light still goes out.
I would like to see a light on those money wasters.
    And the population is considered.
Payment for 3 months of 5000 bath and after a month the money is gone.
This government is a big lie and they know it.
Stretching and sticking with it, so we're extending the state of emergency for another month + month + month
etc. and all under the guise of Covid 19
If the Thai do not die from that, then it is from the misery they experience every day.
