In Thailand, serious work is being done on the roll-out of the WiFi network. The responsible Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) wants to be able to offer free WiFi next year at 400.000 different locations throughout Thailand.

ICT Minister Anudit Nakornthap says that more than 270.000 free WiFi Spots have already been installed in Thailand this year. Another 150.000 will be added next year. 950 million baht has been budgeted for this and allocated by the research fund of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).

The aim of the governments is that between 7 and 10 million people can access the free WiFi network. The state-owned company TOT Plc is responsible for the construction, management and maintenance of the WIFI equipment.

After registration, you can use the network for free for a period of six months at a speed of 2Mbps. After 20 minutes the connection is broken and there is a maximum of two hours per day.

This is a very good thing and will be music to the ears of many tourists.

I think it will all be a Thai joke .
TOT cannot even provide its paying customers with WiFi normally because there is more no reception than there is.
We pay for 10 Mb and we can usually be happy that we get the 2 Mb. And we have 2 subscriptions because we are often lucky that we still have 1 that works (are aimed at 2 different antennas).
We regularly have to bribe the mechanics to come and repair something .
All in all, they do justice to their Thai name if you translate it into Dutch ::It is a remains a TOT (normal tod)

Great… with 2mbps you have just removed your spam from your email after 20 minutes (especially if everyone is on the same network…). you have to write very fast. Or just like before, off-line and then send.
I'd rather pay then. 3bb hotspot for 105 Baht and you can surf at high speed for 20 hours. The 20 hours are not continuous, but every time you use it, the time is subtracted from the 20 hours. A ticket is valid for one month.
I am now using it in Hua Hin and Pranburi…. Unfortunately, I have moved to an admittedly beautiful area, but I don't get fixed internet (for now). An aircard is a solution, but too expensive to download and too little free GB.

In the beginning when I came to live in Thailand, I also had many problems with TOT.
Service with us in Pasang was 100%, very friendly staff also the local manager.
If it sometimes didn't work, I was allowed to e-mail at their office in urgent cases
    email bank ed.
    But nothing changed.
Have been with TTT Broadband for many years now, and everything works PERFECTLY.
They pulled a new cable from my house to a box in our village.
    Had a problem twice.
The technician came the next day and fixed it quickly.
Nothing but praise for 3 BB broadband.

    Greetings from Jantje from Pasang.

Free WIFI at eg shops or the mac donalds is often a hassle. You first have to give a lot of personal information and even then you often have no connection. Maybe beginners disease and this will get better over time. In itself, of course, very nice when you can use WIFI at several public locations. In the Netherlands, of course, very common and accessible here in Thailand is still a bit difficult.

Free Wi-Fi is already quite common in the Netherlands. This will also be the case in Thailand in the short term. And many other countries will follow. Availability of data will no longer be a problem. We are on the eve of a data explosion. Companies such as Bonofa AG are responding to this by integrating different communities on the internet.
