There has been quite a bit to do but The Golden Cliff House Hotel in Pattaya is closing. The hotel illegally built a swimming pool in the sea 21 years ago.

The operator closes the hotel because the Marine Department is after him. They have called the police because the swimming pool is in violation of all kinds of legislation.

On November 16, the hotel received a visit from officials. Everything turned out to be wrong. For example, the hotel did not have a permit and the swimming pool was built illegally.

The manager of the hotel Wanthanan (64) says that the hotel was originally a residential house. In 1995 it was converted into an apartment complex and in 2007 it was turned into a hotel with 47 rooms. The then operator applied for a permit, but they did not receive it because the building did not comply with the rules. The current owner took over the hotel in 2015.

The pool will be demolished anyway. That costs 1 million baht. Wanthanan doesn't know what will happen to the property now.

AND they are everywhere. I saw Surin Beach in Phukket, knocking everything down and leaving a huge mess behind. Also on a hill where, I think, there once was a resort. Everything against the surface and leaving a mess behind.
I wonder what they will do with the tallest building in BK, which also seems to be illegal.
Hasn't been standing there that long, also against the plain?

What are you talking about?! Who are they"? Surin was kind of a party place with illegal extensions from every restaurant. Bimi, Catch and all those other high-end restaurants had given themselves permission to become “beach clubs”, with showers in the middle of the beach, DJs and stationary lounge furniture.

That has all been neatly cleaned up, and the beach is heavenly quiet again, except for the occasional jet ski that comes to stir things up from Bang Tao. I really hope they do something about it...

That whole “piranha-style” business should be stopped.

Yesterday I already mentioned in my post about the “great cleaning” in Pattaya.

Another hotel has already been given notice, because the (Chinese) owner instead of the
allowed 4 floors to be built to 7 floors. Also end of story.

A few years ago my wife and I spent a week at the Golden Cliff House Hotel. Upon entering the hotel I immediately noticed that there were very few guests. The room we had was very spacious and had a beautiful view of the pool and the sea. We were very satisfied in the first few days with a few little things that you can find everywhere. After a few days I noticed more and more that the Hotel was under poor management. Because there were hardly any guests present, we got the feeling that the staff, in order to earn something, only focused on us. As soon as our key was no longer available in the Lobby, and people got the impression that we were in our room, we immediately received a telephone call asking if we needed anything. If we had no wishes and would rather enjoy our peace and quiet, it didn't take long before the next phone call came asking if we would like a massage. Even in the morning at breakfast we were constantly bothered with such questions. Everywhere you saw bored staff standing around, while as a layman I saw work everywhere. After a few days, out of curiosity, I wanted to know who owned this hotel because, given the obvious mismanagement, this could not possibly bear fruit. When I asked, I was told that the owner was a high-ranking soldier who came to visit at most a few times a year. I already told my wife that the Hotel could never have a long life this way, and I am convinced that a new owner will also have a lot of work to breathe new life into.
