The city of Bangkok has temporarily closed 83 of the city's 400 pubs that do not meet fire safety standards. When the calf is drowned, the well is filled in, as this action comes after last Friday's deadly inferno at the Mountain B pub in Sattahip (Chon Buri), which killed 15 visitors and injured 38.

The investigation on which the closures are based was conducted after a recent fire in the Silom district, Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said Saturday. Emergency exits were not clearly visible or accessible at many pubs.

The municipality (BMA, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration) decided to carry out the inspection together with the police.

The Ministry of the Interior, meanwhile, has sent an urgent letter to provincial administrations ordering them to carry out regular inspections of bars and related catering establishments and to report monthly.

Suttipong Juljarern, permanent secretary of the interior ministry, says provincial authorities are responsible for inspecting catering establishments and ensuring they comply with the law. Officers who fail to comply with the order may face not only disciplinary action, but also criminal action.

Highly flammable sound insulation will not solve the problem of closed doors, but yes, as already stated in the piece, a calf must first drown and then the highest boss will threaten his own officials who are responsible for checking the regulations in this. Another letter of incompetence by publicly paid figures.

That is not a typical Thai thing Johnny BG, this ailment occurs almost everywhere, although they are high on the world ranking.
There is also a word for what is understood all over the planet.
Of course one knows about the hat and the brim.
How else do you think that in a sigh and a fart 83 pubs are declared not fire safe.

The next step in catharsis could (should?) be:
all bar owners (per neighborhood in Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang mai, Phuket) go together to the authorities, confess that they are not operating their business according to the rules and provide the authorities and the press with a list of officials who regularly receive bribes from them with the amounts or presents (cars, sweet trips, sex, booze).

Looked it up Chris, I haven't been to school for so long.

Catharsis (Greek: κάθαρσις kátharsis) is a narratological term meaning "emotional purification".

Eliminating quite a few 'sharp edges' would be desirable.
Think that the next 'list' is already ready.
Presumably for less than a year this problem except for some historical mentions.
For the rest I would say. DreamOn

      it's always fun to dream
The hidden message in my response is that everyone always looks at the corrupt authorities (and condemns them) but that the party that benefits from the corruption is apparently always seen as a victim when it is NOT. It A:ALWAYS takes two parties for corruption.

Think of our Netherlands more specifically Volendam…….

for editing and clarity: Chon Buri province. One might think that Sattahip concerns a district of the city.

By the way, 15 have died so far. Arrested the owner: had no permit. What do you mean bribes in this busy place in the vicinity of the marine complex for years…..

It should not be so difficult to bring corrupt officials, but also corrupt owners of these types of establishments, to justice if corruption was not so common and one is even more to blame than the other. How people and therefore also in Thailand treat each other in this area and under these circumstances, may also be sufficiently known and the invitees are already being killed for less. The fear of each other and the urge for money and power and the so-called prestige are factors that have been playing for years. It seems impossible to respond adequately to this. So you need honest people in politics, in the police, the judiciary, the legal profession and the judiciary for that, and there is a lack of that, I have to conclude time and time again. It is now news again and tomorrow life will continue with self-enrichment and the constant visible interactions between those involved. Look what's happening with that soft drug hype. We will experience a lot of new things from this, but not for the better, that is already certain.
