The construction of the Red Line, a Skytrain connection between Bang Sue and Rangsit, has been halted after three workers were killed in an accident at the construction site in Don Muang (Bangkok) on Friday evening.

The accident happened because a steel support construction suddenly fell off a pillar during the work. This so-called 'segment launcher' is used to temporarily hold concrete beams in place. The three fatalities also fell from the construction. An earlier accident during the construction of the Red Line has already killed five people.

Construction has now been halted until all safety procedures have been reviewed. This has been ordered by Secretary of Transportation Arkhom. The engineer in charge has been suspended pending the investigation. The minister has ordered the company to come up with a plan within a week to prevent a recurrence of the incident.

The Thai Railways (SRT), the client for the construction of the Red Line, will form an investigation committee. It is being investigated whether the contractor Italian Thai Development Plc (Italthai) can be blamed. Permanent Secretary Chartchai of the Ministry of Transport says Italthai will be blacklisted if it turns out that they did not comply with safety requirements.

It is positive, but especially remarkable, that the works have been halted and an investigation is being carried out.

Remarkable, because I still see Thailand in that area as a developing country that does not take safety regulations seriously and a death more or less…

Removing food stalls, parasols, and the like with a lot of tame, to show that you are doing something for the citizens, but on the other hand having to deal with corruption and (to stay on topic) with a lack of safety on construction sites, goes against me the chest.

The decision to take such occupational accidents seriously is therefore a real progress for the country!

The combination of Italian Thai Development makes you think.

Like everywhere they are building there is a large sign SAVETY FIRST .. forget that in Thailand there is a very careless approach to safety . Just look at the steel cables of the cranes . And on the scaffolding in construction just with their slippers at work only the supervisor has a helmet on his head . I know something about working safely and also how to close things off at road works. I myself have worked in high-rise buildings, such as painting the stays of the tower in Lopik and all other masts and TV towers in the Netherlands.

I wish they would have acted as diligently with the case of the prostitution network in Mae Hong Son.
Not to mention the disappearance of the 1932 paquette.

I am also surprised that the construction workers there are walking in flip flops.

Statics is a subject that is usually taught at school.

And then when you have understood the lessons, you can build something like the Millau viaduct.
