The investigation into the alleged suicide of Elise Dallemange on the holiday island of Koh Tao is in full swing, but has not yet given a definite answer about the circumstances surrounding her death. A source with the Crime Suppression Division's investigative team says that the Belgian woman, 30, previously tried to take her own life on April 4 at Nopphawong railway station in Bangkok.

Railway staff and bystanders managed to prevent this. She was then sent to the Somdet Chaopraya Institute of Psychiatry for treatment, but whether she was treated there is not clear. Some time later she traveled to Koh Tao. The police will request the investigation report from the Nopphawong bureau and the results of the medical examination.

The police have also contacted the Sali Baba movement (a kind of Indian sect) on Koh Phangan where the woman often stayed. German leader Raaman Andreas was not present as he had left for Sri Lanka and India two months ago.

The police believe that Andreas has more information about Elise's mental state. The man told British newspaper The Mirror that Elise wanted to return to Belgium and was happy. Her behavior was also normal.

Koh Tao police went to Tanote Bay yesterday, where the Belgian was found on April 27. Surveillance camera footage shows Elise rice and buying a ferry ticket to the mainland.

The police have now interviewed fifteen people, including the owner and staff of Triple B Bungalows, where she checked in on April 19. Ten people have yet to be heard.

My 25 year old son is going to Thailand for the third time. I asked him to skip Koh Tao: after all, there are many beautiful islands. Do you think this is a premature reaction?

    • Tony says up

Yes, he is more likely to die because he is riding a rented scooter.

      • Nik says up

With all due respect : But are there more people on koh tao killed by scooter than people died under suspicious circumstances in the same time frame? I do not think so.

I always think panic reactions are wrong, but here I follow you as a dad...

Why? Because it's always possible that there's a lunatic out there who's responsible for the unsolved murders on that island.

After all, it is really strange that so many suspicious deaths of young people took place on such a small island in just a few years!!

If this were the work of one or more psychopaths, then staying away until they are caught is an option. Especially as advice for your children!

Not a premature reaction, but what about the many beautiful islands?

There is also undoubtedly a local guru there, many islands are known for their tolerance for the use of all kinds of drugs and the holding of sex parties. Are there rapes.

You can also keep your children away from there by telling them that there is a serial killer.

Furthermore, there are more drug deaths in the world than there are coconut deaths on their heads.

Of course, looking for danger is never a good idea. But maybe the danger will find you sooner. And with blinders on, you are guaranteed to get a price faster ;~)

I also urged my son in Bangkok not to go to Koh Tao.
I don't trust that mess there with its many murders, crime and corruption there.

That she tried to take her own life in Bangkok is of course an important fact, but no proof that she succeeded on Koh Tao.

Proving suicide is not always possible.
It has been proven that Elise was not killed by third parties.
The family did not believe that, so the investigation was reopened.
With the same result, also – with the help of, and – under international pressure.

Some relatives find it difficult to accept suicide as the cause of death.
But that's why feigning that she was killed by third parties?

To assume that there is a serial killer on the island when there is rather impunity for drug policies and related crime seems hypocritical to me.

Possibly this would be dust for Els Van Wijlen and “Petra R de Vries”. The horror takes place in Els' backyard.
As a Belgian, I followed this lurid case through various media. But yes, what belief can a person still have in the media (see article about safety in Thailand above on this blog)?
Koh Tao is no further away for me than for the people who live on Koh Samui, 2 hours by boat and I'm there. When I go to Koh Samui, and that has happened about 30 times already, I always have to pass Koh Tao and in the past I often made a stopover there for a short stay. Koh Tao was in the past, and still is, the place to be for diving enthusiasts. The island was known for it. Until about 5 years ago, about 5-10 people got off the boat in Koh Toa and they always went to dive, for nothing else because apart from some beautiful nature there is nothing to see or experience on Koh Tao. Those who went to the archipelago went to Koh Panghan, for the fulmoon parties or to Koh Samui, with everything a tourist wants.

Now it's completely different. When the Lomprayah High Speed Catamaran, which departs from Chumphon, is full, 70% of the travelers, many young people, get off the boat on Koh Tao. Are they all going diving? NO, they won't, most of them have never seen diving goggles, let alone diving tanks up close. So there must be another reason. It's easy to guess: the small island, without much nightlife, or almost any bars, has very little police. Some days not even a handful and has attracted a different audience. This is in contrast to Koh Panghan and Koh Samui. Even though you often do not recognize the police, as they are often in plain clothes, they are well represented on these islands and so it is much more dangerous for a certain audience to be spotted. I think I shouldn't finish this story any further, so that most readers will understand what it's all about. Good advice, see what gets ON the boat that leaves from Koh Tao or see HOW they get off the boat upon arrival after a stay on Koh Tao... The island has become a "new paradise" in recent years for …… van will come soon, van will come soon ……

I do not speak at all about the sad case of the Belgian woman who died. My condolences to the bereaved, but I have serious doubts that a serial killer is at work on Koh Tao.
