Fatal accidents in Thailand's traffic are hardly news, we are so used to it that the accident must be bizarre or occur under special circumstances for us to be surprised.

This is another example: an ambulance, on its way to bring a patient home, goes off the road and hits a tree. The patient, just released from a hospital, dies, the driver and three family members are seriously injured.

It happened on Monday on Mittraphap Road in Korat and the local police chief suspects that the driver fell asleep at the wheel after a (too) long day at work. The ambulance was on an overnight journey from a hospital in Chonburi to Nong Khai, the home of the deceased patient.
