The corruption scandal involving the former head of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Pongpat Chayapan, continues to make the front page of Bangkok Post dominate. Today the newspaper reports the arrest of five new suspects.

They are charged with extortion, illegal collection of debts, deprivation of liberty and lèse majesté. The five new, three civilians and two soldiers, plus the five arrested on Wednesday, all have links to the Pongpat criminal network.

Even more heads are starting to roll at the Marine Police. Three senior officers will be transferred to an inactive post after a preliminary investigation reveals they have collected bribes from an oil smuggling gang. The leader of that gang is still a fugitive.

The police have come into possession of a list of payments to about fifty people. In the photo, police commissioner Somyot shows the list.

The Crime Suppression Division, part of the CIB, has decided sixteen of its ad hoc operations centers [?] to suppress corruption practices at the CSD. Only the center dealing with hitmen and "influential figures" remains intact.

The Fine Arts Department has a lot of work to do. It is to map the 20.000 antiquities seized from Pongpat homes. Many are ancient. The staff are particularly impressed by a sandstone Khmer Phnom Da deity that dates back to the twelfth century (Buddhist era). The statue is valued at several million baht.

    Another five arrests.
What is the number five for a number in this mega corruption case.
At the end of the line the counter is definitely over 5 HUNDRED .
This is just the tip of a very large iceberg, hope the temperature will rise soon.
    Because ICE cannot withstand heat.
