The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) expects moderate growth in the number of tourists during the Chinese New Year. The Chinese New Year Festival will be celebrated from January 24 to 30 and an estimated 1,01 million foreigners will visit Thailand, a 1,5% increase from last year.

TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn explains the moderate growth due to the ongoing trade war between China and the US. In addition, the Yuan has weakened, while the Baht remains strong.

Yathasak emphasizes that many other countries in the region are also preying on Chinese tourists. For example, the government of Malaysia recently introduced a measure allowing Chinese and Indian visitors to travel visa-free for 2020 days in 15

The TAT organizes Chinese New Year events in several provinces, including Ratchaburi, Suphan Buri, Chon Buri, Nakhon Sawan, Chiang Mai, Udon Thani, Songkhla and Phuket.
