The military authority doesn't let any grass grow over it. The curfew, already lifted in 25 tourist areas, will expire. In September, the military authority transfers the country's administration to an interim government and a legislative body is formed in October. They will rule the country for a year. Once all necessary reforms have been completed, Thais can go to the polls.

Coupleider General Prayuth Chan-ocha announced these intentions in his third TV talk on Friday. He also announced that the mortgage system for rice would come to an end (cf Cloth falls on controversial rice mortgage system). The farmers who are still owed money for their surrendered rice will be paid no later than 22 June. To date, 80 percent of the 600.000 farmers involved have received all the money they had been waiting for for months.

Tablet PC program overhauled

Another toy of the former government party Pheu Thai also falls: the tablet PC program for all primary and secondary school students. The program will be completed for the students of Mathatyom 1 in the North and Northeast, who have not yet received a tablet.

But after that it's over and out. The budget earmarked for the program in the 2015 budget will be spent on other projects that benefit students, says a source within the Ministry of Education. The services that distributed the tablets have been asked to come up with suggestions.

Earlier, the Office of the Basic Education Commission came up with the idea of the 'smart classroom', a classroom equipped with the most modern technology and interactive computer software. The municipalities of Pattaya and Bangkok previously suggested buying tablets with higher specifications or iPads.

    Good Morning,

I am a layman in this field, but will this affect my tour I want to make in October?

@ Bart Yes, you can now also travel at night.

Thanks Dick, so nothing negative 🙂

Great, I don't have to worry about that (hopefully)!

Does this mean that the situation before the coup has been completely restored? And that traveling through Thailand is no longer a problem?

@ Leo Traveling through Thailand now gives the same problems as before the curfew. Or no problem, if you know what I mean, to quote a well-known statement.

It will be time for them to realize that their learning deficit cannot be solved by giving them tablets. That they first return to the “basics”. It's just unbelievable that a high school math teacher has to count on her fingers to know how much 5 plus two is!! That she is not able to calculate the area of a circle and that she hears thunder in the kitchen when you tell her that it is radius times radius times pi or pi times the diameter divided by four... That they start with the teachers which can simply buy their diploma somewhere or... be a good friend of the Mr. Director.

Although I am a computer freak and use my computer every day and although I call a tablet, a smartphone and a few laptops my own, I am certainly not sad that the tablet program has been scrapped. Let them learn from books first and make an effort to learn something. I've seen it with my own children… children are children and they will soon succumb to the temptations of such a tablet. Then there will be more chatting and Facebooking than learning. The problem with computers and tablets is that they can do too much. Pure learning with such a thing is kind of tedious, and the feedback you get from a chat or a like is much more fun.
    So better not. Great decision.
