Home » News from Thailand » US negative travel advice another blow to tourism in Thailand
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advised against Americans traveling to Thailand. On August 9, Thailand was added to the list of Very High Risk countries (level 4). Fully vaccinated US citizens are advised against traveling to Thailand due to the risk of exposure to the virus and variants.
Sisdivahr Cheewarattanaporn, president of the Association of Thai Travel Agents, understands but is also concerned: “With a surge in daily infections and a record number of fatalities, the flow of foreign tourists will automatically decrease, with or without travel advisories, because people worry about their health and safety.”
But that the warning about travel to Thailand will negatively affect the tourism outlook for the third quarter (Q3) is certain. All hope is now focused on the high season.
The tourism industry urges the government to hurry up with the vaccination otherwise this year can also be written off.
Source: Bangkok Post
I still wonder which tourism in Q3 this advice should have a negative impact on. Tourism has been non-existent for more than a year. You can't negatively influence something that isn't there, right?
The people who voluntarily submit to ASQ or 14 days of confinement in the Phuket sandbox (with all the risks of forced quarantine if someone close to you tests positive afterwards) are not deterred by such negative advice.
I had also read that Germany also warns not to travel to Thailand.
Sws Thailand doesn't seem attractive to me now with the 14 day quarantine. Great to do if you hibernate but not if you only have 4 weeks of vacation
I wonder more and more what purpose that vaccination actually serves? Vaccinated or not all measures and restrictions remain in force. I don't understand why a vaccinated person should not be allowed to travel to a country where there are many infections or why that vaccine does not protect
It should now penetrate so slowly that the vaccine does not prevent you from getting Covid anymore. Only it reduces the chance that you get it and it ensures that your body is better armed and the virus will not make you so sick.
The chance that you end up in a hospital is then much smaller (which is already small enough).
As far as the measures are concerned: until now, a vaccination percentage of the entire population (or at least of the environment where you are) had to be at least 70% vaccinated. Only then were the restrictions eased. Due to the new variant, people are even considering requiring 85%. Thailand is still a long way off with its 7%. With the “speed” and excellent policy here, it will be the end of 2022 before that happens (that is my humble opinion).
Why are people still talking about tourism? It's over! The cake is finished.
It will take at least a few years or even longer before Thailand will become a little more attractive for tourism again.
And that's a good thing, because let the country first fully recover from this nasty pandemic.
The whole country has been disrupted and everyone is skittishly walking around with face masks, you have no business there anymore.
There is no longer a job in this sector and everyone has left for another place where they came from and has now found another job.
The vacancy will have to deal with a much longer period and in the revolution construction there will be enormous demolition because there is nothing left to rent or sell.
This will give the appearance of an average beach road in Thailand a completely different look.
Hopefully some green will come back for this so that Thailand can fully recover and breathe out the atmosphere of 35 years ago.
You are probably right, but that is of no use to all the people who work in the sector.
I would advise the government to react a little more adequately and provide a little more support instead of scaring the hell out of people.
At the moment, just over 1% of the population has tested positive for covid and 0,01% died (partly) from this virus.
And I would like to tell the population not to be so frightened…. But yes I speak the language so badly, so I'm afraid it won't be.
If I dream further, I call on the filthy rich companies to return at least 75% of their profits through covid to the population, especially the poorest 20%.
By the way, the foreigners living here can also miss some extras, I think, so do like me and support your favorite masseuse or taxi driver with 5000 baht a month.
The above call may sound a bit 'joyful' but it is meant seriously.
