Transport Minister Arkhom supports the plan of Airports of Thailand (AoT), manager of the six main airports, to take over the operation of the airports in Udon Thani and Tak. These are now administered by the Department of Airports (DOA) government agency.

The acquisition could ease the strain on Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang. Travelers from the region who want to travel abroad do not have to go to Suvarnabhumi first. You can easily fly to Laos via Udon Thani. Udon Thani airport can be developed into a regional hub with connections abroad.

Udon Thani and Tak airports are the top performers of the DOA, which operates a total of 28 airports. DOA itself has previously proposed that AoT take over the airports to increase efficiency. The Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning is researching investments and plans for all 39 Thai airports.
