The Airport Rail Link in Bangkok that connects the center of Bangkok (Phayathai Station) with Suvarnabhumi International Airport seems to be dying of its own success. An emergency measure with the deployment of two extra trains, one in the morning rush hour and one in the evening rush hour, should bring some air to the busy ARL line.

The Thai Railways (SRT), owner of the ARL, wants to do something about the many complaints from commuters about overcrowded trains and dangerously busy platforms.

The SRT expects the ARL to be fully operational again by the end of the year, which will put an end to the current problems. Three of the nine trains are currently undergoing maintenance. Passenger numbers have risen sharply in recent years, with around 70.000 passengers traveling on the ARL every day.

To counter the shortage of trains, the SRTET has brought forward the starting time of the timetable from 6.00:5.30 to XNUMX:XNUMX.

I was there a while ago and it got really crowded on that train. No fun, if you also have luggage with you.

If you then know that at the start of this train you were even allowed to travel for free. And no one used it, even sat in a completely empty train set.
The advantage of this connection is that you cannot be scammed by taxi drivers.

I seem to remember that one or two years ago it turned out that no maintenance was being done on the trains and that quite a few problems arose. Then they wanted to tackle it very rigorously and temporarily remove a large number of train sets with predictable emergency situations. Can't find it anymore.

Being ripped off by a taxi is of course very relative. When are you being scammed? If you pay too much? An example: I was in a hurry and had to get from A but B quickly, the first best taxi asked for 200 Bath. I thought it was fine because I didn't feel like waiting any longer, so I didn't turn the meter on. Due to the crowds I was in the taxi for over 1 hour. The same part back in the evening, 79 bath per meter and in 17 minutes, hardly any traffic. Have I been scammed? And by whom? So it just depends on how you look at it!
