News from Thailand – February 6, 2015

The Nation opens this day with the hunt for the dragon. That is the main suspect who, together with an accomplice, placed two pipe bombs at Siam Paragon last Sunday. The net around the suspects seems to be closing now that the police are releasing more and more details and the description of the perpetrators. The 'Dragon' would come from Samut Prakan and have contacts with a former politician. The taxi driver who transported the man is convinced that he would recognize him immediately: http://goo.gl/Xuqcgl

Bangkok Post opens today with an article about the drought that is hitting Thailand this year. As a result, the water level in the large reservoirs is very low. According to the newspaper, this has not happened before in the past 15 years. At least 31 villages in eight provinces in the North, Northeast and the Central part of Thailand have been designated as disaster areas. It is expected that the problems will become even greater and that at least XNUMX provinces will be affected by the drought. According to the Royal Irrigation Department, there is enough water for the population this year, but it must be used sparingly: http://goo.gl/2vzKrH

– Thailand strengthens military ties with China over the next five years. This concerns, among other things, the exchange of intelligence on the fight against cross-border crime. The agreement was reached during a two-day visit by Chinese Defense Minister Chang Wanquan to Bangkok. According to Thai Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, China does not interfere in Thailand's politics and is therefore a reliable partner. This statement clearly resembles a reproach against the US: http://t.co/5DsI1gcy6b

– Yesterday we already wrote about it and indeed the police in Pattaya yesterday afternoon with a total of 50 officials and police officers invaded the “Naked Sushi” restaurant in South Pattaya. There were complaints on social media about this misogynistic restaurant, where sushi can be eaten from a naked woman. The owner, a 60-year-old Australian man named “Jason,” was not present. The restaurant, Toyko Kids, was opened 4 years ago and mainly focuses on Asian customers. The owner would earn between 10.000 and 20.000 Baht per day with his remarkable restaurant: http://t.co/9NTfVgyMTg

The water level has not been this low in 15 years.
The south has too much water. What are you doing then. I would think, bring water from the south to the north. Of course it costs a god's fortune to build large pipelines. But how many God's fortunes have already been spent on useless projects. How much money as a small country have we spent to secure our country as a small country that largely live below sea level.
Did not your Jews come to their land of Israel and have made a fertile land out of a desert area. What the Jews do in Palestine is another story. It's just an example I
    give.
Inability to solve big problems is Thailand's problem. There is no such thing as putting our shoulders to the wheel together to solve major problems. Divide and conquer. Later your kids with that
leave a mess behind. Who's thinking about that?
    Cor van Kampen.

Not only do you need big pipes, you also need big pumps.
The north is often higher than the south (Khon Kaen about 300 meters).
I think that if the electricity bill of those pumps has to be paid by the yield of the rice, money has to be added.

Ruud also has a solution for that.
How about solar panels? Can they get it from China?

    • Ad says up

Solar panels are not an option, the big oil companies don't earn anything from that!!
Thailand is ideally suited for solar panels enough sun you would think!!

It seems to me that you will have to install quite a few solar panels and pumps if you want to quench the thirst of dry Isaan.
That pipe must have a diameter of a few meters, I think, if you want to be able to move enough water over about 1000 km and a height difference of 300 meters.

  3. quaipuak says up

They must first see where there is always flooding.
Store all the water there first. And then there is no need for 1000 km of pipeline. Or they do it in 2 stages. From the south to the center and from the center to the south. Doesn't have to have such heavy pumps for the first part, I thought. And by the way, energy can also be obtained from that moving water.. Even if it is minimal. Together with those solar panels you will come a long way. And they should also look at where in the isan they bring water first and not just to Khon Kaen. Because very good rice comes from Surin, if not the best from Thailand.

    Greetings,

    Kwaipuak
