News from Thailand – Thursday, April 16, 2015

The Nation continues its coverage of last Friday's Koh Samui bombing today. Two senior police officers claim that former politicians are involved in the attack. An indication would be that these politicians, who are not mentioned by name, visited Surat Thani province shortly before the attack and still have a lot of influence in the area: http://goo.gl/6z4xQY

Bangkok Post opens with the headline that the chief of police Somyot Pumpanmuang does not rule out that the bomb attack on Koh Samui is politically motivated. According to him, some well-known southern politicians are suspected of involvement. There would be evidence for that. This puts the earlier theory that there are links with extremists in the south into question. The attack was not the work of the southern resistance. The investigation takes into account the following theories: The extremists in the south are responsible, the attack is related to a conflict between the mall's management and fired employees, there is a political act possibly related to the two recent attacks in Bangkok: http://goo.gl/Ey2PPm
