It is cold in large parts of Thailand and mainly in the north and northeast of the country. The sellers of warm clothing notice this.

Due to temperatures of around 14 degrees, there is a lot of demand for second-hand jackets and other warm clothing. Most vendors at Klong Thom market in Nang Rong in Buri Ram say their daily turnover has doubled. Second-hand coats are sold for 50 to 100 baht each. Some sellers say they earn 5.000 baht a day because customers sometimes buy up to ten items of clothing.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in Chiang Mai is concerned about the lack of winter clothing in the North. There is a shortage of warm clothes and blankets in 25 districts of Chiang Mai. So far, the department has only been able to provide warm clothing to 30.000 people or 10 percent of the population.

Thousands of tourists have flocked to Doi Inthanon National Park and pitched their tents to experience frost; the temperature has dropped to 9 degrees. Yesterday, 7.000 tourists arrived in the national park. Hotels and inns are almost fully booked until Monday.

The Thai Meteorological Department expects temperatures in the North and Northeast to drop by another 4 to 8 degrees until Tuesday. In Bangkok, the East and the Central Region, the mercury has dropped to 13 to 18 degrees.

It is useful to mention that these temperatures only apply at night, during the day it is still around 25 degrees in the sun.

Temperatures that you think in NL "don't be like that".

    Dear Editor,

We have been taking thick clothing to Thailand for the family for years.
The last two years I went to Thailand for two weeks at the beginning of the year
it was indeed very on the chilly side on the day, but normally it is
    good during the day.

Personally, I hope that the 'government' will lend a helping hand with regard to older people.
A warm sweater, socks (my experience) are certainly important.

I'm not going for the climate but for the people.
    Yours faithfully,

    Erwin

Not so long ago, the Chang brewery extended a “helping hand”.
Blankets with the Chang logo were distributed on a large scale, especially among those underprivileged hill tribes.

Now, Sunday morning at 07:8, here in Chiang Rai XNUMX degrees. In the hills/mountains it won't be far from freezing point locally. No fun if you live in a bamboo house where the cold wind blows through the cracks.

Friday morning arrived in Bangkok: I notice it clearly in the morning. I've never had it as fresh here as it is now. Nice and warm during the day. Always sunny.

Monday evening to Khon Kaen: will put on sweater and jacket just in case…

Also in Chiang Mai. We don't need the AC for now. A blower heater in the bathroom. At least we can have a hot shower. It goes further. In the morning 19 degrees in the living room.
And as already mentioned, the sun warms everything quickly. Only the pool water is a bit too cold for us

I just arrived today via Bangkok in Ubun Ratchathani… The first word I learned was: narrow narrow…..
Still 19 degrees to Well a fresh wind outside. Pleasant transition, but for the Thai that is not pleasant because they have no clothing for that… and I thought indeed saw many winter coats with “fur” collars on the market…
and my Thai girlfriend had a day out with the colleagues sent a picture and I had to laugh…
    Cookie and Zopie…
I wondered how they came so quickly and all those fancy knitted winter hats.
For privacy reasons I cannot show the photo here, but I would have liked to...
It would be a unique Thai "snapshot".
    Close close!

I am very happy with my fireplace! People thought I was crazy around here 11 years ago. But now I see more and more envious looks.
