On Monday, two Dutch people drowned in the Vietnamese province of Thua Thien-Hue. The duo had gone swimming at a resort. Things went wrong when they were swept away by the current, according to Vietnam News.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague confirms the death of the two Dutchmen and has been in contact with the next of kin. The two went on a group trip, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The bodies have since been recovered and taken to a hospital.

The waters near the province are turbulent due to typhoon Toraji. Resort staff had warned the Dutch about the strong current, but that the two decided to go swimming anyway.

When you read the piece, you think: terrible, why don't people listen to those who know. But the newspaper tells a different story and that makes it even worse, horrible even.

“Someone from the tour group went into the sea and got into trouble. My father then tried to save that person with a few others. That's where it went wrong.”
