The Dutch man is the tallest in the world. People's height was studied in 187 countries. Dutch women are in second place. Only women in Latvia are taller, NOS writes.

This study looked at the change in height of people between 1914 and 2014. Dutch men grew from 169 centimeters to 182,5 centimeters in that period. A hundred years ago they were still in twelfth place.

Women from the Netherlands come from 38th place. A hundred years ago they were on average 155 centimeters, now 169 centimeters. Apart from Australia, the top 25 only includes European countries.

Health

According to the researchers, people's height is determined by their genes and living conditions. The study shows that good health care, sanitation and nutrition are the most important factors for growth.

People who are taller generally live longer and are less likely to develop heart disease. Taller women are less likely to have birth complications. However, these people have a slightly higher chance of getting cancer, according to the study.

Being tall in Thailand

Being tall in Thailand is sometimes a problem. In Saraburi I was in a hotel where the doorway was so low that my head was constantly bumping and I am only 1.86 meters. When I was in Thailand with friends who are moving towards six feet, people in Chinatown stopped to watch these giants.

But being tall can also be annoying, for example if you fly economy class. It seems that airlines do not take into account the fact that the Dutch are getting taller.

How tall are you? and do you mainly have convenience or just suffer from it in Thailand?

I also heard this in the news yesterday. The Flemish men are in second place and are 1 cm shorter than the Dutch. I have not heard anything about the Flemish women.

    I am a bit smaller…

So if I meet a big man in Thailand, chances are that I can speak Dutch with him 😀

Now I don't think 182.5 cm is that big, I am 180 cm myself and I think I am small compared to most Dutch people, but yes, 182.5 is actually an average, so there must also be little “Hollanderkes” walking around who are the maxi size. press down...

With 180 cm never a problem in economy in combination with 73 kilograms .... that should not be more for me ... ..

I'm 202 cm and no longer a special thing now 75 years old but still not shrunk.
I remember walking the busy Lijnbaan in Rotterdam 20 years ago I was a sight and literally looked over everyone and the rare time a long one passed we raised our hands just like motorcyclists passing each other because we were both on lonely height lived
I now have a son of 205 cm and a daughter of 186 cm, my son-in-law is 192 cm etc etc
Yes, I have seen the Dutch grow visibly

The Foodland in Soi 5 Sukhumvit does have a very low ceiling for my 1,92. I also always have to be careful when I walk on markets in Thailand. The bathtubs of most hotels are short. Like most hotel beds. Legroom in the plane plays a major role in the choice of airline. A few centimeters more makes it just that little bit more pleasant. Yet one of the tallest men who lived on this world was someone from Thailand, I once read somewhere.

      Sorry Jack
Tallest man ever lived was American Robert Wadlow 272 cm

That's why I also wrote 1 of the tallest men. The Thai man who died in 2015 was unofficially 2,69. And that in a country where they are not really known for tall men. I understand that he has not had a pleasant life.

Indeed, there are small "Hollanderkes" around who adjust the average downwards. Unfortunately, my womb period is the same as the hunger winter period in WWII. Probably the reason for my 169 cm.
And also the reason why I've always had an inferiority complex about that height. Probably the reason why I have been involved in various university studies, in order to enjoy some prestige in a different way.
But don't worry, when I "give the pipe to Maarten" in a few years' time (I don't know Maarten at all), the average will jump from 182,5 cm to 182,6 cm.
    Regards, Hansest
PS, my Thai girlfriend is 151 cm. The big advantage of Thai girlfriends. I also feel a bit long at times.

Oh that is relatively, 169 cm, is not so small now, of course with those giants around you cultivate that feeling.

I remember an anecdote that Napoleon Bonaparte tried to take a book from a high shelf with difficulty, his bodyguard, another giant, said sire, let me take that, I am taller..., to which Napoleon replied angrily: no, you are just taller. …. I am bigger, meaning his status…(Grandeur…) meaning that you can be big not necessarily in high number of cm….

Hansest, a comforting thought: Everything that is made on the running meter is less finished…

Consolation for the little men, not everything is equally small. As an athlete since I was 15, I have seen quite a few things after exercising in the showers.

By the way I come from the northern provinces in the Netherlands; shows that the men from the northern 3 provinces are a bit taller than in the rest of the Netherlands. This emerged during the examinations for compulsory military service in the Netherlands.

Even with my modest Dutch height. 175 cm tall, I sometimes have problems in hotel beds in Thailand: when I really stretch out, my feet stick out.
