The Dutchman Jos Muijtjens plays a prominent role in the commemoration for the deceased Thai king Bhumibol. Jos moved from Maastricht to Ayutthaya two years ago.

Tomorrow he will lead eleven elephants from The Royal Elephant Kraal with his trumpet during the memorial ceremony for the king and will be dressed in traditional Thai clothing.

For the newspaper The Limburger he tells on the phone that he is honored to have been asked to lead the ceremony on Tuesday. He rehearsed all day for the commemoration, which attracted a lot of press.

Muijtjens works for Elephantstay, a shelter for elderly elephants located on the territory of The Royal Elephant Kraal. He will play the King's song on Tuesday, among other things. The elephants then put on a little show. That all takes place at the Royal Palace in Bangkok where the king lies in state.
